United Consolidated Federated Blogeration

I’m currently redesigning dougklesch.com to better reflect what I do. And while I’m bulldozing the neighborhood, I figured I’d integrate the blog more into site, instead of having it hanging out there, like a vestigial appendage.

I’m still working on finalizing the design for the site, and organizing the content, but all the old favorites from Hand of Blog have been imported over here now.

Bear with me while I work out the kinks – since I took down the old site already, you get to see how the sausage is made! Lucky You!

Solid!

A nice little surprise was awaiting me when I arrived to the Internets for work this morning!

After a bit of an interval since the last installment, the newest episode of the amazing webseries “Modern War Gear Solid” by the guys at Beat Down Boogie has final been released.

Not having been a gamer for a few years now, I don’t claim to be an expert in the content that they’re parodying, but what I do know is that these guys created a funny, high-quality production on a shoe string budget, a handful of equipment and buckets of talent. (For my European readers ,”shoestrings”, “handfuls” and “buckets” do indeed have metric equivalents, but I don’t know how to convert at the moment, so you’ll just have to do the math.)

Last Fall, I was invited to contribute to this project, and I got to witness the behind-the-scenes for some of the stuff that is actually presented in this episode. I’m just now getting into film making and I have to say that watching these guys at work has been an inspiration to me.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to have participated in a small way on this project. In addition to the promotional posters they created a little while back, you can see my work incorporated into the closing credits of this newest episode – the character portraits were done by me on set on one of the last days of filming.

Be sure to watch the episode all the way through to the end of the final credits, so you can get a look at the names and faces of all the folks who put this series together.
Thanks again to Blake, Micah and all the other talented people responsible for this project! It was a pleasure and an honor working with you!

ATS Rental Review

Last week, I needed a second camera to cover a seminar I was asked to shoot, so I rented a Canon HV20 camcorder from ATS Rentals.

The camera was reliable, the shipping was on time and the cost (with a discount for this review!) was definitely reasonable. ATS also made it pretty much foolproof to ship the camera back to them once the rental period was complete.
The only thing that I might complain about was that the page numbers seemed to be missing from the user manual, which made it a bit difficult to look up functions that I was unfamiliar with… yes, I had to “RTFM”.
I haven’t looked at too many other rental places for this kind of equipment but I would be inclined to use ATS rentals again if I needed another camera.
